About Me

Me at junction of Mare a Mare Nord & GR20, Corsica

My name is Jules. I started this blog primarily as a way of recording some of the things I have been doing in the great outdoors, so I can look back in years to come and remember more clearly what I got up to. If anyone else sees this and gains some inspiration from it, even better.

Walking and hiking has long been a passion for me. I like to get out and about in the countryside as often as possible and to discuss issues and events with like-minded people at every opportunity.

I'm interested in all types of walking and hiking - both in the UK and abroad - and am equally happy climbing a mountain or on a riverside saunter. Particular interests include Long Distance Paths and routes that are rooted in the history of travel and transhumance, marks on the landscape combining a sense of place with a sense of history.

Discovering an area on foot is a great way to get to know somewhere better and to meet the people who live there. In the UK, my favourite areas to walk are the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Lakes, the Shropshire Hills and the Cotswolds, to name a few. In truth I am equally happy anywhere in our wonderful countryside.

Further afield I've been fortunate enough to have walked in some amazing mountain ranges such as the Canadian Rockies, the Alps, the Pyrenees, Corsica, the Tatras, the Drakensberg and the Atlas Mountains; awesome scenery that cannot fail to re-invigorate even the most tired of souls.
